I borrowed this from a friend to see if it would work for me. I've decided to look for something else, but depending on your needs this might just be the thing.
The lavalier works fine, and the sound is better than what you'd get with most onboard mikes since it doesn't pick up a lot of the extraneous sound. For interviews and the like where the main sound you want to capture is a specific person's voice, and if you're on a budget, this would be perfect.
One thing you can't do with this directly is pair the lav with another mike. The output plug from the the receiver into your camcorder (or other capturing device) is mono, and if your camcorder doesn't have an onboard mixer and sets plugged-in mikes to override the onboard mike (like mine) that means that the sound from the lavalier will be the only thing your camera captures and it will only capture it on one channel. That's the deal breaker for me. It's easy to duplicate the sound into two channels for output, but what this means for me is I will only capture a part of what I want. I tend to shoot documentary style, and while I am usually focused on one person and want to be able to hear what he or she says clearly without a lot of interference, I also want to capture (separately) the ambient sound. The only way I could make this work for most things I want to do is if I also bought a portable mixer and plugged this and another mike into it, setting each to different stereo channels. At that point, though, I'd lose a lot of the flexibility I have with my camcorder. I'm going to keep looking for a better solution; but for some needs this would be a nice solution to the problem of getting clear voices without extraneous sound on a compact camcorder.Get more detail about Azden WMS-PRO Wireless Microphone System.
