Odd as it may sound but these speakers do sound much better after they have been used after a week or so. M-Audio is a highly respected brand that are also used in recording studios. I went through a pair of Logitech 2.1 x-240 and returned those because the audio would get distorted after the notch was turned up more than half the way. Then came a pair of $150 2.1 Altec Lansing speakers, which were nice but my hearing is quite sensitive and the subwoofer had a slight audio ring that was unbearable.
Then after a lot of research I finally decided to pick up M-Audio AV30s. All the websites I went to had >4 star rating out of 5. It was beyond what the other brands were rated yet I was still skeptical. I decided to pick them up from a local best buy and test them out. The speakers were strong and built sturdy unlike the other hollow, gentle speakers that I have used in the past. The shielding is excellent and I have NEVER picked up any cell phone static unlike the Logitech or Altec Lansing.
These speakers do run a bit hot so I wouldn't recommend to leave them on while not using them and also the on/off switch is located on the back on the speaker so that may effect your decision when buying. As for the sound quality, it was much more crisp than the Logitech and Altec Lansing that I had. Lately, I have been watching Life by BBC, and these speakers have really enhanced the experience.
These speakers saved me some room by not having to get a subwoofer and still maintained exceptional sound quality. I am very pleased with my purchase and would definitely recommend these speakers to anyone.Get more detail about M-Audio Studiophile AV30 Professional Reference Speakers.
